Ten Reasons to Read Your Bible

“The Bible is the greatest of all books; to study it is the noblest of all pursuits; to understand it, the highest of all goals.” Charles C. Ryrie

At the close of each year, many Christian organizations release new Bible reading plans and apps designed to encourage engagement with Scripture. But have you challenged yourself to read and study God’s Word in the coming year?

The Bible is the most extraordinary book in the world because it is God’s book—God’s voice, God’s sword, and God’s hammer. It is food for the hungry soul, light for the blind, and comfort for the weary pilgrim. Scripture itself testifies to its divine origin and purpose.

The Bible’s Self-Claim:
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
(2 Timothy 3:16-17).

In 2024, Bible sales rose by 22 percent over the previous year, and it remains the best-selling book in the world. Although millions of Bibles are sold each year, few people read God’s Word regularly. John Stott, former rector of All Souls Church in London and honorary chaplain to the Queen of England, highlighted this paradox when he wrote,

This much-purchased book is a much-neglected book. Probably tens of thousands of people who buy the Bible never read it. Even in churches, knowledge of the Bible is abysmal. Few church members make a practice of daily Bible meditation.
