Who do You trust?

Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “Trust yourself!” But you know you’ve made mistakes before.

So, who can you trust? Only God! He is the truth (John 14:6) and He has told the truth. In His Word, the Bible (II Timothy 3:16), God made over 300 promises about Jesus the Messiah hundreds of years before He was born. Everyone came true because “it was impossible for God to lie” (Hebrews 6:18).

GOD’S WORD IS SURE

So then, listening to God is critical. For example, what is your spiritual condition? Maybe your friends say you’re okay, your church says you’re faithful, and you feel you’re sincere. But God says, “We are all as an unclean thing” (lsaiah 64:6) and the world is guilty of sin before God (Romans 3:19). Who is right?

Will you go to Heaven? The church may say “likely” and you “hope so.” But God says nothing that defileth shall enter in (Revelation 21:27). You cannot go to Heaven with your sins. God adds, “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23). The God of the universe says we all deserve eternal punishment in Hell for our sins. Is He right?

What do you have to do to go to Heaven? Some say, “Make your good works outweigh your bad ones.” Maybe you’ve always been taught that baptism and church membership will take you there. However, God says, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). According to God, you must have a moment in your life when you are born again – that is, when you receive eternal life. Have you?

GOD’S WAY IS PERFECT

Eternal life is a gift! You cannot earn eternal life through good works, church attendance, or prayers. To give us eternal life, the Lord Jesus suffered and paid for sins through His sacrifice on the cross. “Christ died FOR the ungodly” (Romans 5:6). What a price!

God wants you to take the “gift of God (which) is eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). Is that enough? It is enough because “God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began” (Titus 1:2).
